Paint Correction
WHAT IS A CLEAR COAT?
A clear coat is just like any other paint, except that it doesn’t contain color pigments. It’s the top layer of paint that is sprayed over a base coat (which is what gives the car its color). Caring for clear coat is not really any different than caring for any other paint. All Surf City Garage products are 100% clear coat safe. Virtually all cars manufactured in the past 15 years use clear coat paint as a finish.
CAN BEYOND CLAY PAINT POLISH™ BE APPLIED BY HAND, OR ONLY WITH AN ORBITAL POLISHER?
To get the best results, we recommend that Beyond Clay be used with a buffer. However, you can remove very light scratches/contaminants by hand. When in doubt, save that elbow grease and use an orbital polisher.
DO YOU HAVE A PRODUCT THAT WILL REMOVE SCRATCHES?
It depends on the depth of the scratch. Beyond Clay will easily removes light scratches and swirl marks, when used with an orbital polisher. More severe scratches can often be removed with Wipe Out Scratch Remover. However, if a scratch penetrates the clear coat, no scratch remover will completely remove the scratch and you will need to wet sand and apply more clear coat.
WHY IS BEYOND CLAY™ BETTER THAN THE CLAY BAR KITS?
Beyond Clay does everything a clay bar does and much, much more. It is like a paint job in a bottle. Specifically, clay bars remove oxidation and surface contaminants, which are absorbed by the clay. If the clay bar is overused, those contaminants in the used clay will eventually scratch and damage your paint. Beyond Clay removes all the surface contaminants and oxidation, plus it polishes the paint while removing surface scratches and swirl marks.
WHAT IS THE BEST METHOD FOR REMOVING WATER SPOTS?
A simple and inexpensive way to remove light water spots is to make a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar. For hard water spots, use Beyond Clay by hand or with an orbital polisher. The chemical abrasives in Beyond Clay will break down the calcium buildup in the water spots and remove any other surface contaminants you may have on the paint. Just remember that both the 50/50 solution and Beyond Clay will remove any wax that you had on your car. After removing the water spots, be sure to apply a fresh coat of Barrier Reef Carnauba Wax for protection and shine.
HOW DO YOU REMOVE SWIRL MARKS AND LIGHT SCRATCHES?
It all depends on how deep the scratches are. If you can feel them with your fingernail, you will definitely need an orbital polisher to get those out. If that is not the case, then we recommend Beyond Clay. Use it by hand for light scratches, but for deeper scratches or larger areas, using an orbital polisher will be much easier and quicker.
CAN BEYOND CLAY BE APPLIED BY HAND?
Yes, you can use Beyond Clay by hand on smaller areas, but it’s for larger areas, we recommend using an orbital polisher.
WHAT IS THE RIGHT SPEED SETTING ON MY ORBITAL POLISHER FOR USING BEYOND CLAY?
There are many different orbital polishers out there and each one has its own speed dial. Whether you have a 1-5 system or a low-high system, we recommend starting at the medium level, which is usually around 1500 rpms.
CAN BEYOND CLAY RESTORE A SURFACE THAT DOESN’T HAVE A CLEAR COAT FINISH?
Yes. Beyond Clay works great on both clear coats and single stage paint. Just as a reminder, when using a polish or wax on single stage paint you will notice some coloring on the pad or applicator. This is normal. The same exact thing happens when buffing or waxing a clear coat, except you can’t see the clear coat on the pad or applicator.
CAN WIPE OUT BE USED WITH AN ORBITAL POLISHER?
Yes, even though Wipe Out works great by hand. Just set the orbital polisher on a medium speed and use a foam polishing pad.
WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO REMOVE OVERSPRAY?
Beyond Clay is the best and safest way to remove overspray (as well as oxidation). If the overspray is light, you can use by hand. If it’s heavy, then use Beyond Clay with an orbital polisher.
